It’s well worth reading The Iliad first if you can as The Odyssey follows on from it, although if you’re time poor The Odyssey can easily be read on its own. Good book and worth reading.

I have been in love with greek and roman mythology for years but this is the first time I have read one of the sources for them. I think I feared that the writing style would be too 'antique'. I was delightfully surprised by Fagles' translation and found this to be a fascinating read and gave flesh and depth to many of the myths I thought I knew.
