I finally read this book, and found it to be an interesting layered story. Nick realizes that the little house he moved in to is not far from the huge and impressive mansion belonging to Jay Gatsby. It is lit up every weekend for Gatsby's parties, and one day he is invited to attend. Nick realizes that his wealthy neighbour is in love with Nick's cousin, Daisy, so he agrees to set up a meeting. It gets complicated since she is now married. This story is a classic, and is both romantic and tragic.

One of my favorite books. It is historical works like these that save the essence and flavor of our country.

I've enjoyed the overall plot of the novel but I wished he went more in depth in character structure. Overall, it was a good read.

I thought I would have enjoyed this well appreciated novel more than I did. The vocabulary barrier was difficult for me but I thoroughly liked Fitzgerald writing style. I enjoyed the overall plot of the novel but I wished he went more in depth in character structure. Overall, it was a good read but I don't see it as being one of my favorites. Unfortunately not emotionally provoking enough for me. "Whenever you feel like criticizing any one... just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."

The Great Gatsby is one of my very favorite novels; I have read it several times. Fitzgerald's style is fantastic!

A bold illustration of an archived present that the future can only strive to avoid. The extraordinary becomes simple and the facade of the 'Roaring 20's' is pierced through the psyche of a broken man and his cynicle nature.

The Great Gatsby is a moving look into a love that is undeserved and a satire on the way people lived in the Jazz Age. Gatsby is sacrificed to the careless Daisy and her selfish husband.

F. Scott Fitzgerald does an amazing job of portraying life on Long Island in the 1920's.

I regretfully saw the movie before I read this book, they were both fantastic, but I wish I could have picture the book for myself rather than just imagine what I had already seen from the movie throughout the book.

the thing i liked about the book, it being tricky at times with its different way of story telling. good but not the best ofcourse.

This book was okay, I'm glad I have read it, but it isn't one I'd rush to pick up again!

The characters are flawed to the point where I hate all of them, the actual tale itself is boring and despite all the symbolism leaves no worthwhile lasting message.

Made good use of the dictionary while reading this book, meretricious, punctilious, homogeneity, echolalia? Seems like he was trying to impress readers with his vocabulary. The imagery makes one have to think about what he is referring to (what's with the island of ashes and the big set of eyes?) The book was almost poetic at times. Interesting but nowhere near being my favorite book. Had to watch the movie to explain certain things, such as the source of all the ash, never was this explained in the book. Of course DiCaprio starring in the movie was also a bonus!

Good book. Quite weird, and a drag at times, but enjoyable nonetheless (I'm not exactly sure why it's a famous classic; I guess because of the social

A great depiction of the power of romance, the tragedy of deceit and adultery, and how quickly things can fall apart.

I really enjoyed this book. it's quite short but easy to read, it's true that there are deliberate flaws in all characters but that's what makes the book so real to life. Gatsby is a remarkable character and I truly hope that Leonardo has caught him properly. I thought about this book for weeks after, deciding why the characters said or behaved in a certain way and it made me love it more. You know you've read a good book when it causes you to think about it after ward rather than be spoon-fed the theme. I have to add I cried too.

This bold indictment of the American Dream remains relevant in a day and age in which security and wealth are worshiped as gods. All the money in the world cannot make one happy, and Fitzgerald proves it here, elegantly.

How I loved this book I can't wait for the the new movie version to come out in March 2013

One of the pinnacles of American literature and a timeless reminder of the futility of the American dream - definitely deserves a top spot on any book list.

I read this book in high school and re-read it recently and found more enjoyment in it now than I did over 10 years ago. It's a good read and I would recommend it.
