An honest log of poverty in two great world cities, told so brutally & honestly, it easily becomes Orwell's second greatest work, only behind Animal Farm/1984 (tied). Reread - This second time reading it, after having read it in 2014, I felt slightly detached from what Orwell had to say about poverty in London and Paris in the 1930s. Five years ago, it was easily one of my favorite books of all time (https://www.nairtejas.com/books) and now it doesn't feel like much. Maybe because I am now detached and too far from poverty than I was five years ago, which is both a good and bad thing, in the context of Down and Out in Paris and London.
