The main character, Alexandra Bergson, inherits the family farmland when her father dies, and she devotes her life to making the farm a viable enterprise at a time when other immigrant families give and leave the prairie....

When I read the blurb for this book I wasn't overly excited about reading it to be honest! But... I ended up really enjoying it, it's a lovely little story. I'm looking forward to reading the other 2 in the trilogy: "The Song of the Lark" and "My Ántonia"!
