It took me some time to get into this, but in the end I really loved the sentiments; I’m a hopeless romantic!

It is with some misgivings that I approached this novel. How could someone write a prequel to a classic such as Jane Eyre without doing an injustice to a literary masterpiece. Rhys stunned me with the brilliance of this book and how it makes you reconsider the so-called mad woman in the room in Jane Eyre. It makes me want to go back and re-read Jane Eyre but it will be through a very different lens.
