I was totally hooked. The author mixes Bateman’s narcism really well; the mundane and normalisation of his murderous acts intertwined with his longings to look and be the best dressed/groomed/materialist he can be. Whether you like Bateman or not, it’s hard to deny the authors ability to portray a total psychopath!

this was very hard to read....very hard...it really captured the mind-blowing consumerism of the 80s in horrific and morally-empty minute detail. At the same time, the overall callousness of those idolizing status and money...and the madness...the evil... This one hurt; this one was appalling. I'm not sure why my reaction here is different from my reaction to the beat/drugs/Burroughs/Kerouac/etc--with those I was disgusted and didn't enjoy. AP ratcheted up the horror and maybe that's why I dislike it less?

Very satirical. Creepy at times, Patrick Bateman is intimidating but charismatic at the same time!

Sick slick and ultimately like an act of onamism - exciting, naughty, climactic and ultimately leaves you sad, alone, and feeling slightly sick

American Psycho is a satirical masterpiece - a dull overview of the life in the day of a seemingly normal businessman, with violent and sexual intermittent outbursts that are so sudden and shocking they'll appall even the most seasoned readers. This novel perfectly documents the American mindset, and the progression, or lack thereof, that our society has made.
