Loved it. It's so long ago that I read it, but being a lover of fantasy stories, this is a very satisfying read.

Loved this so much more than the trilogy. I read this solo in my early 20s and then to my two sons .....the pre-k son preferred this to every other book I read...and he read it as soon as he learned to read. It's that good!

Althought it's a children's book it's quite difficult for some readers so keep that in mind. That being said, once they're at the right level they will love it.

I know so many people who love this story, but honestly, I just found it incredibly dry. It had an okay plot, but if you don't love it as much as you thought you should, you're not alone. Which is probably just that I expected too much.

An epic fantasy novel that is filled with fighting, freedom, emotion, and legends. A must-read.

A pleasant read. The movies and mythology do not do it justice.

One of the greatest fantasy novels ever written. Tolkien creates a magical land, fills it with mystical creatures, then leads you on a most amazing journey. Battles with orcs, encounters with elves, the discovery of a powerful ring, a great dragons treasure, culminating in a great battle for power, kingdom and freedom.

The beginning of the greatest story ever created in the mind of a man. This story grabs you and leaves you wanting more and the more is delivered in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I am a huge fan of this book. Although I have not read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I find that this particular novel can stand alone quite easily. We were asked to read it for 8th grade English, but by this time I had already read the novel once, and since I have read it another time just for fun. It is very engaging and a must-read for any fantasy fans out there.
